 The
Regiment is a teeth arm frontline tank unit. Our mission is to destroy
enemy tanks and support the infantry in close combat. To achieve this
we are equipped with 58 Challenger 2 organized into 4 Sabre Squadrons.
Challenger 2 is undoubtedly one of the world's most potent main battle
tanks. Though it only recently entered service with the British Army,
the Regiment has already proved its abilities in peace support operations
in Kosovo.
In
addition the Regiment also fields an elite close Reconnaissance Troop
mounted in 8 CVRT Sabres. These are light tracked armoured vehicles that
rely on speed and guile. Their task is the covert location and observation
and some times destruction of the enemy. As such they are usually found
well forward of the leading forces.
An
Armoured Regiment is of little use however, if it is not properly supported.
For this reason the Regiment has a large Headquarters Squadron. This Squadron
supplies ammunition, fuel, and rations to the Regiment. It also includes
specialist technicians, mechanics and artisans, as well as clerical and
medical staff.
